District Singles from Qualicum Beach LBC
September 5th & 6th was the showdown for the District Singles Men’s and Women’s tournament. The weather was very pleasant and it was great to see so many different clubs represented in the viewing gallery. It’s always encouraging for the competitors when they have some cheering going on!
Thanks to the QBLBC for hosting the tournament this year.
As always, thanks to the different Club volunteers who marked for the games, you are appreciated.
After two days of competition these are the results:
District Women’s Singles:
1st place – Joan Matheson – Courtenay
2nd place – Kate Wilson – Parksville
District Men’s Singles:
1st place – Grady Work – Nanaimo
2nd place – John Eyre – Qualicum Beach
Canadian Sr. Men’s Triples from Windsor ON
The Canadian Senior Men’s Triples Tournament was played in Windsor Ontario. The BC team of Dennis Verge (Victoria), Nick May (Victoria) and John Eyre (Qualicum Beach) won Gold. The other BC team of Dave Baldwin (White Rock), Bill Pattinson (Maple Ridge) and Jim Guszowaty (White Rock) won Silver. Congratulations to an outstanding performance by our BC Teams! Two Ontario teams played for Bronze.

District Novice & Intermediate Tournament
August 29th and 30th saw the district Novice and Intermediate tournament played at the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club. Congratulations to all the participants.
Thanks also to the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club for hosting this years tournament and the District for supplying the medals.

2nd 8 and Eat – Pulled Pork
Angie Bettam, Linda Hoem and Lesley Leinweber hosted the 2nd 8 and Eat at the Club! It featured pulled pork on a bun, coleslaw and other salads and finished off with ice cream bars.
This is a great event to participate in. Come out, play 8 ends of lawn bowling and then sit down with your friends and have a meal prepared for you by other Club members.

Quality Foods Women’s and Men’s Triples
The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club hosted the annual QF Triples Tournament this past weekend, bringing together bowlers for two days of friendly competition, great sportsmanship, and plenty of memorable moments on the greens.
Saturday began with cool temperatures and a light drizzle, but spirits remained high as teams took to the rinks. The weather soon improved, with the sun breaking through around 10:30 a.m. and providing ideal conditions for the remainder of the day.
Throughout the tournament, spectators and players alike were treated to an impressive display of skill, with numerous remarkable shots drawing applause from fellow competitors. The event was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the good-natured rivalry that makes lawn bowling such an enjoyable sport.
Sunday brought even better weather, with a pleasant mix of sun and cloud creating comfortable playing conditions for the tournament’s final matches. As the competition concluded, participants expressed their appreciation for a well-organized event and the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of excellent bowling and fellowship.
The QBLBC extends its thanks to all players, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the QF Triples Tournament another successful and enjoyable event.

Courtenay Scotch Pairs Men’s Winners
Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club members Brian Michell and Erik Ewen came out of the tournament this weekend in Courtenay winning the Scotch Men’s Pairs. Congratulations to these two gentlemen.
Quaddie Club Tournament
Saturday May 30th was the Quaddie Club tournament. There were only 16 participants, but a fun time was had by all.
1st place was the team of Stu Goodby, Erin Sellers, Graham Rae and Brandy Knight.
2nd place was the team of Alan Brunskill, Nancy Blue, Doug Runchey and Susan Medhurst.
‘A quaddie in lawn bowling is a fun, social tournament format featuring teams of four players who compete in multiple, varied formats over several games (usually 3). Typically, the day involves playing games as pairs (two teams of two), triples/singles (one or two-person teams), and a full four-person team game.’
First 8 & Eat of the season
Thursday May 28th was the first 8 & Eat of the season at the Club. It was hosted by Lynn Chwartacki and April Gilchrist. They put on a great spread of butter chicken with rice, naan bread, cucumber raita and ice cream bars for dessert.

Victoria Day Celebrations at the Club
Monday afternoon saw a fine turnout for a 10 end game followed by one of Edwina Doddington’s fancy teas! Many of the participants were dressed in white and some wore fancy hats and facinators. Following are some pictures of the days events from Stu and Darlene doing the draw, to Edwina’s kitchen crew to the tea itself and a couple of shots of the lovely tables layed out with the sandwiches and goodies.
